ladder problem

Post by shadowdemon »

i seem to have a problem with ladders. climbing them is no problem, just change till you found the right angle if 90 or 180 doesnt work. the problem is even without the ladder brush my ladder looks messed up in game.First i thought the problem was the ladder brush that was causing all the mess but seems it's my ladder construction.

can anyone also tell me how i can see the measures of things, because the measures on top are not really accurate to work with if you're working in more then 100's of them.

did you use cfg subtract? you should delete that and build one using two verticle slats then add your horizontal rungs not in the slats but on them

note: make the first rung, texture and size it then copy for other rungs

Does the ladder texture completely surround ALL parts of the ladder and contain NOTHING else? Just having it consuming a corner of a wall or something will create that effect. You can use the "X" cut tool to get rid of excess bits of the texture that might intersect something other than the ladder as long as the face where the climbing is done is still straight.

The visual problem is due to MAX_POINTS_ON_WINDING (check the compiler log). It happens when you have too many brushes touching a single brush, in your case too many rungs touching a single (or 2) bar(s). Easiest fix (if the problem reappears) is to cut the bars in half (make 2 brushes from what was 1).

Maybe this will help you set the right angle.

The 2D view on the left is looking from the top.

Also, you should rotate the texture on your rails (key S) -- so that the wood grain looks right.
