LINKED MULTIPLAYER MAPS ???

I remember pre-spearhead an EA guys promise of an ambitious game type , TOW . When the game was released , TOW maps where nothing like he had described ...

unfortunately no one seems to have read the post of false promises that entailed a truely awsome sounding type of gameplay .

Anyway , I wanted to know if anyone would be able to create a script for how TOW was supposed to be , well to me anyway :

A TOW map would consist of 3 maps all linked together , the game starting in the middle of the 3 maps . The middle map has objs for both sides but once a team completed these it would load the next map instead of starting again . A team would only be able to complete a full victory by winning consecutive maps . The maps on each side of the middle map would be the "final victory" maps .

eg : MAP1 -----START------ MAP2

for an allied victory , allies would have to win the start map then it would load map 2 and they would need to win map2 for a complete victory .

Axis would have the opposite , having to push the allies back from the start map to map1 for full victory .

MAP 1 would need a victory trigger for the axis , and a trigger to load back to the start map if allies completed the objs .

START map would have no victory triggers , instead a load map1 trigger if axis won and a load map2 for an allied win .

MAP 2 would need a victory trigger for allies , and a trigger to load back to the start map if axis completed there objs .

There would also need to be script to somehow carry on the scores between each of the maps and for a trigger to load the start map once a full victory has been achieved ....

This would allow for much larger scale campaign style battles !! I would be very , very grateful for help on this one !!! Full credit for script work would be given to the scripter in my TOW maps if they got it to work and it would be just awsome to play !!!!

Cant remember who but someone started this....they quit too because they also read that same piece of info bout Spearhead having it but now we see they changed what TOW was to be :(.

Check the TMT site....believe it was a member there...I think.

You would be right about the EA 'promises' on TOW. They weasled out of that one...guess too much work and too little time to design 'linked' maps. Anyway, there is scripting stuff to do that, or appears to be. In the 'worldspawn' entity menu you can put in stuff like that and I'm sure that some of the guys here, JV_Map maybe, can crank out a quick script tidbit to work it. VERY cool idea, one I've toyed with myself...can't be too difficult as the scripting has to be in the stock games anyway. Just thinking a tweak to the victory/fail lines.

Maybe it will work, but don't forget a server usually has a map rotation which determines the next map to play.

Anyway, you might want to try a bsptransition command in your script. You'll have to test it on a server with a map rotation to make sure it works properly.

I have tried this with a dedicated server:

In the server.cfg set the maplist to the map you want to start with (only one map).

In your script put this:

setcvar "sv_maplist" "mapname-here"

That will take you to whatever map you want.

Only problem is that on the start of the next map, everybody has to pick a team again :(

This subject may be old, but I am working with the concept right now. I believe I am onto something and will release a video as soon as I am sure.
