New Map, 99% Complete
Posted: Wed Jul 03, 2002 7:58 pm
Hey all, just putting the finishing touches on my map. It will
feature two buildings with about 150 windows and 75 doors all
together. A third story crosswalk will connect the two buildings.
A simple courtyard and two guardtowers are also present. A
nice alley behind the buildings with lots of crates to pop out
from. A good sized outdoor area beyond the complex with a
simple bridge viewable in the distance. I should have nearly
1600 entities when final compile takes place. BUT A QUESTION:
can I get someone, say like the surgeon to take a brief look
at my map (it's only in pre-compile form) and let me know
of any problems I may encounter before compiling? Or
anyone else who has made lots of maps. I will give some
credit for editing if you can give me some advice. With 5200
total brushes (I think that includes entities though) you would
probably just have to trust me that no brushes are overlapping.
From certain views, brushes probably appear to overlap. And
I have tried my best to make sure that none were. But some
APPEAR to be overlapping, only to find that if you click the brush
and get an idea to the 3-dimensional space it holds in relation
to other adjacent brushes, it should be compliant. My main concern
will be the framerate. The complexity of the windows and walls and
putting in doors has created more brushes than I would desire.
And the volumes of entities is also a concern, as I do not know
how they affect framerate. But I hope that the framerate can
be acceptable. Losing some detail (as in entities) is an option.
SO, can a master mapper help me. I have spent many, many
hours on this project, so a collaboration would be welcomed.
Please post if you have any comments or would like to help.
P.S. If anyone would like HALF-CREDIT on the map, I would
be happy to if someone could do a custom loading screen,
the compiling and lighting to their desire. Now I could do
these things, but I'm am getting weary from the huge
amount of time I have put into this map. So minor editing
would be allowed for your own creative purposes if you
felt you wanted to add something. Thanks everyone......
