need help with the smallest ever problem

hi all i used to be a mapper but i stopped for awhile now i want to do it again, ive forgot everything i know and i have a question.
how do i make thin brushes like the ones in v2 etc, mainly because im making a different version of v2 and i cant figure it out

like there the v2 is, there are two main levels. and on the second level there are railings kind of like saftey rails
also what are the shortcut keys to stretch a texture to the size of a brush

1st: Maybe your grid size is still at default 8 units. U can change this via number keys 1,2,3... or menu grid
2nd: Ctrl+F

fitting the texture to the brush is ctrl+f . the railing is probably a thinner brush (2u) , textured with no draw and then one of the sides has a railing texture (with transparency) .

Probably rather a legend in misunderstanding questions and telling people what they didn't want to know (or even crap)
PKM is right, those very(!) thin "brushes" are just textured on one side. Study the stock maps or some at the
recycling bin, and u'll see how it's done
