If you just want to learn how to use a 3d app you can get gmax for free . Not as powerfull as 3dmax but almost the same . I have some max scripts to export as obj files and a plugin for md3 format . It can import 3ds files . If not you should be able to find the trial version of 3dmax if you use google or another search engine .

i'm not sure if gmax does what i'm looking for... i saw some example of a (2d) drawing that was imported and made 3d in 3ds max... looked dope, so it got me interested...
i found a d/l for it, but there you have to fill out a huge form, and i'm no friend of filling out forms...
but thanks for the advice, i'll keep looking - if anyone got some other advice please let me know...

tnx!

legally u wont get a 3dsmax version (even demo) without registration.

I'd take a close look on Blender, which is almost as powerful as 3dmax and which is Open Source (free to d/l & use)

tztztz... will u stop talkin german here

i gave Blender and 3dMax a try, and both are quite difficult to become familiar with... 1 thing 4 sure, 3dMax isn't easier, just different. So u will have a long way to go to get what u want :? , but whatever ure planning to do, you'll be able to, with both of them. Once I know what u want, we might find an easier way tho.

Quatschma im msn, wemmas mal beide schaffen sollten...
