Over-Tutorialized New Mapper

Hi guys! I'm a new mapper and decided to give it a try after spending some time making several skins. I got myself into it I guess! I have been reading so many tutorials and some are great but they all fail to realize that new mappers don't know simple procedures. For example, making a non-rotating door apparently is quite the task for me. I know how to make it so you can't walk through a model but how do you walk through something like a section of wall into a secret passage? I couldn't figure out what fire to use for a fire place for a long time. Since there are at least 7 fire effects in my list at least I assumed it would be somewhere in a tutorial but I can't find it. I could sit here and read a million forums but the lingo used is not geared toward noobs like me.

I know it's annoying to repost things all the time and I should look through the masses of posts before posting like this but let's face it, that's just not practical. So, after that venting intro could I get a helping hand with some things lol? If you would like to be a gem and help me through xfire or something that would be fine too. My xfire name is 1andonlypetergriffin.

If you play much, I am in the <<{MFF}>> clan and we do rifles-only freeze-tag as well as custom maps and we have a King of the Hill server that one of our guys made. Come check us out! 64.34.215.104

Thanks a ton!!!

I am assuming you're hinting that it is in the forums...all of my needs and desires. If so, which I'm sure it is, I'll let you know in ten years when I find something that's on my level.

as shown in the image below, objects shouldn't be on your level, your level should be on the object . otherwise it doesn't work .

I love it when people prove stereotypes true.

I'm not on here often but many knowledgable people still pop in, basic starting tutorials are plentiful on this site and many others.
A good starting point is this site where I learned the basics http://users.1st.net/kimberly/Tutorial/index.htm
Take your time and experiment, ask questions but try to find answers before requesting solutions.
I and I'm sure others will try to help you along the way.
Good luck.

I am very familiar with many of Nemesis's tutorials on mapping and on skinning. They are very good but he leaves a lot out. My question was not specific, it was just a request for help with mapping. I don't expect an answer here because you're right, I haven't posted a specific question. That's why I put my xfire on there. Thanks for your help Imagination and please add me to xfire if you're interested in helping me more.

I find it rather hypocritical to not allow vulgar language on the forums but someone can post a picture of a guy with a raging hardon. Mr. Sourpus needs to go to his room for a little while and learn how to play nice with others.

So your all down with tutorials then :(

then go here -

http://recyclingbin.mods-r-us.net/

learn by exanmple of .maps provided by other mappers. I believe all your questions can be answered by looking at the material in the Bin.

Dispite PKM's spam posts, we do help, now and then. Just post your questions, one at a time.

Dude, you're just incorrigible. ;)

Welcome to .map, Peter, please bear with PKM. :) Once you've hung around .map a bit more you'll see he's actually quite entertaining. ;)
