Funny, I'm getting EXACTLY the same error, but when trying to run the Windows MoHAA client in Linux via Wine. :? The cause is probably totally different, though.

oh crap, if rook hasn't fixed the problem already, i'm screwed .
think rook, dammit think !

edit: rook, googled the problem and found this old thread...

http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic16973.html

seems a variety of issues can cause this problem . hoping i can find the one that's causing mine since this cpu currently doesn't have a ''seperate'' video card and the ''update your video card driver'' solution won't work for me .
i'm working off the default intel 82865G graphics controller .

sp3 is an evil plan by M$ to break XP so you have to buy vista :)

This actually sounds like something they would very well want to do. :?

I had that error way back for SP2 and somehow found a workaround. Alot of guys in GCC have been having a similar problem lately. I suggest keep looking, someone's bound to have an old guide of how to fix it.

All I remember is: you do not have to update your drivers to fix it.

I don't think any old fixes will work, this is a new bloatware, I mean, service pack.

i'm am going to kill my brother in law . he's one of those computer system nuts (no offense to any computer system nuts here) who is constantly ''suggesting'' i update this and ''configure'' that ...and being i'm a OS idiot, i just nod like a retard . he noticed i was still on SP2 and berated me into downloading/installing SP3 . after reading hogleg's link i'm scared sh**less about system recovery because all my CPUs are off the shelf, meaning no XP OS install disc .

found an update to my driver by going directly to intel instead of having windows check for updates on the net . so thanks to everyone and rook .
