Adding Basic Sound To A Map

I've been extremely impressed with all the resources there are on this site. I got mapping and created my first map yesterday. The issue now is getting some sound into the map. Footsteps, guns, etc. I need some help adding sound to my map. Can anyone give me a template I can work off of? It's very frustrating to open the map and find there is no sound. Also (off-topic) I added an enemy to my map and it would hurt me, but it would not animate with the gun pointed at me? What gives?
