AI! YAY!!!!

Hey all, so I've got a script where Grillo follows me through m2l2a. Everything works; he follows me around and does everything I want him to; however, I decided to go a bit deeper and see if I could make him follow me without killing anyone and without anyone shooting him.
Mostly through a lot of trial and error, I've partially succeeded., I used enableEnemy = 0 and threatbias ignoreme to hopefully make him invisible and stop shooting. He doesn't notice the enemy, but the enemy notice him, they just don't shoot (i.e. the card players get up and face him). I've scoured the friendly, spawner, and ai globals multiple times, but I still haven't been able to discover a method to make it so that the enemy really doesn't notice him.
I looked at Breakthrough's FinalEscape.scr because of the part where you follow Klaus to the trucks, but then I realized he doesn't have a friendtype = 0, he just has pathnodes. To test this, I set my guy's friendtype to 0 and I just push him along. Using that method, no one notices him, so it's definitely to do with the friendtype.
My question is, is there anyway to do this using friendtype = 1, or am I going to manually set the pathnodes for him?
Any input at all would be greatly appreciated
