Anyone out there, who can explain how to use textures like lthserail_set1m or balcny_rail_set1?
The black background obviously ought to become transparent but I don't know how!

it should be transparent 'in-game', but not in the editor...

uh, yes. that's what i did expect. but they stay black in-game, too.
Are there any boxes to check in the surface properties, any values to change? Are there textures that look as if they work, but in fact don't?

What is the difference between shader and non-shader textures?
Questions questions questions...
If there was a manual explain such basic stuff, i would be very glad. I only found the gtkRadiant-manual by Jaquays which is not completely useless but doesn't explain such topics

shaders

Shaders are text files that tell the game how to display a texture. Most of them are located in Pak0 in the "scripts" folder. I have had no problems adding the railing textures. You might check your in-game video settings. It is important to use nodraw on the back and side faces, so you don't get a double image.

So, non-shader textures are textures without a text-file?! And then, non-shader textures with black background won't get transparent??
Anyway, now it works fine (with a shader texture).
