What is an SCR and do i need it upon packaging my map for lay into a pk3? I checked out the layout info here for creating pk3s. I have experiance creating them but before i go and do that where do I get all the needed info for my map. Is an scr a sound script that is needed? not needed?
I have so far needed
mymap.bps got this
mymap.min ????
mymap.scr ????
mymap_precache.scr ????

I understand how to package the pk3 but where are all these files i need and why do i need them?

Ok here goes.

The .scr is a map script. On a deathmatch map, this usually isn't much more than some scoreboard info. Just check out a couple of original scripts in pak5.pk3 and you'll get the concept.

Before deploying your map, remove the .min file. Then load your map in game. Instead of the regular loading bar you'll see a flashing text. When your map finished loading, you have an up to date .min file, which you should include in your .pk3 or mac users will not be able to play your map.

The precache script is of minor importance, might want to include it though.

So: bsp, scr, min is all you need.

A level precache script is associated with each map, and is loaded and started whenever the map is loaded (even from a saved game). This script is used for precaching map specific resources. maps/mapname_precache.scr corresponds to maps/mapname.bsp. A level precache script is optional

I don't precache it. I think's it's a waste of time.

So I HAVE TO write my own scr for my scoreboard info huh? That would require me scripting. Can i rip off an scr for the pak file you listed to make a go at it? I have a min file. And btw i don't give a crap about mac users. Mac went out like a heat attack.

So i need the scr. I will try. If i am wrong let me know. There must be some typ of writing that i will need specific to my map huh?

You guys are great help. Hamburger hill is finished and looks great. I have Sniper Forest on the make right now. I am stuck on trying to get the sun or moon working. The tutorials seem off because i followed it word for word.

Key values didn't seem to do it. Do I have to associate the key values in the entity box with a light source I made?

Well if you are making a MP map or a DM match or a FFA mp then yes you can rip the scr and precache file. All you have to do is. Say do you have the MOH Demo? Because it is good for searching for files really quick. Open pak0.pk3 (it might be diff for you). And find the mapname_precache.scr and mapname.scr and copy it to your desktop. Then take notepad/wordpad open it and edit it then name it what you want.

yarik_precache.scr
yarik.scr

Or if you dont want to edit it just copy the two files and rename it to your name.
Note becarefull because you would probably want to have your own img and name you wouldnt want .

Stalingrad loading if you made a map called yarik.

Thanks for the info. I'll try ripping the scr from pak 0. I used an scr from algiers and it worked so maybe manipulating it will work for my sniper forest map. Once again thanks for the help.

Scr's are confusing to me.

I read the same thing. Funny stuff. Programmers have nothing else to do apparently. This doesn't help me though. I can't seem to get note pad to associate with an scr file it says it a damn screen saver file which it is not. What do I do? I tried to right click and open with but i'm not even getting open when i right click. I'm running into all sorts of problems with sunlight and junk. I'm setting a new thread for sunlight. Thanks Yarik for the help.

Well i never heard of that one. Here is my $00.02. Copy the scr file to a folder from the pak file. Then open notepad-->file-->Open--> xxx.scr

Warning but first change the kind of file you are going to open. At the bottom of the screen where it says .txt change that to "ALL FILES". Then only then click on xxx.scr.

What i did was copy ALL of the Mxlx.scr mxlx_precache.scr global and shader file's to a folder named MOHScripts(Make one if you dont have one) then use that folder to open all of the things you want. That way you wont have to go through the long process of extracting all the files

Or open notepad (start->run->notepad) and drag the scr on top of it..
