Type 'cl_avidemo <framerate>' in the console.
Then find some program to convert all screenshots to a video.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have a hint on a program you use?

I was just trying to do this exact same thing at the weekend, I found a simple prog that did exactly what I needed, saved it out as an avi too, though a huge file size so I ran it through XP movie maker saved as a WMV and it worked fine, it also does not capture sound and trying to record the sound as well as writing a video live to your hard drive just crashes everything. So I suggest a minidisk recorder or something to record the sound then stitch both audio and video back together, a lil bit of pain but easily done.
I am gonna film myself pistol whipping people, should be fun
Heres the site to download the prog

Hey Jack!
I've tried that program and it doesn't seem to work right for me. I only get the lower left-hand corner when recording. Did you have the same problem? What other ways are there to capture video? The fps don't seem to be that great either.

If I remeber correctly the Fraps prog will only capture your whole screen if your game is set at 800x600 or maybe its even only 640x480, you can adjust the frame rate capture in the settings somewhere, cant remeber right now but I think its simple, check the FAQ's on the fraps site for more info.

Ahhh, that sounds like a good answer. I will set my game res to a lower one like those that you have stated. I bet that's it. I have a good video card and an awesome monitor so I set everything to the highest setting I can. Right now my res is like 1024 x 960 or something like that, not sure. Thanks again man! I will let you know how it goes. Later!

Also I think you have to have a decent speed hard drive 7200 rpm or something, and the files that fraps saves out are huge, so be careful you dont crash your system,

Unfortunatly for most people, the BEST way of video capture is via a digital camcorder.
We at the wikingclan (
www.wikingclan.co.uk) are currently creating a movie.
I have a video card that can create a 2nd output.
I direct this into a video camcorder (I guess you could use a tv too!) and plug a lead into the sound card which has the white & red audio cables which I then also pluginto the camcorder (again into a tv could work!)
We then record the footage (and sound).
At which point you then require a video editing card in your pc (not cheap) to transfer the data back to your pc. THEN using some video editing software cut up the movie how you like and then compressing it into .avi or .mpg!
Then voila you have your movie!
Once ours is completed I will post it up here so you can see the end result!
This isn't an ideal solution, but if you have the equipment then use it!!!!!!!!!!
