Manipulating Water - Is it possible

Ok this is something i've been toying with for a long time as Im a massive fan of Stargate SG-1 i wanted to build a stargate map but when i Put the water texture in it moves from the bottom of the gate to the top
(See Screenshot- This is a Very Early test build of the gate)
So what im wondering is, is it at all possible to change the effect of the water to say having it ripple from the centre outwards?

I would guess from my experience with other games, that the water riples are just animated textures. Therefore you need to create a new texture. (Just a guess !!!).
Its probably wrong as MoH always seems to do things differently.

You can rotate the animation (scroll) of the watertexture in the surface inspector with the texture property rotation.
Also you could write a new .shader for a new or an existing texture, but I don't think you can make it scroll from the center outwards.
I would suggest, cut your gate in some pieces and change the rotation of each piece so the water looks as if scrolling the right way. Doesn't look perfect but I think this should do it?!
Another Idea: Make a curve cylinder with a water texture scrolling from the peak to the bottom, make it REALLY flat and use this almost even circle as your gate.

There is a subpen texture in Spearhead that when shot ripples in concentric circles. Maybe take a look at how that is done and enlarge the effect.

I forgot half of the solution:
You must make a curve cylinder,
then select it, press v and make a cone out of it (if you do not know how, ask here), thenmake it really flat...
If you find a water texture without waves, you can use that, if not you should make your own scrolling texture! This is not that difficult as I found out two days ago
I gave this solution a try(without new texture but with canal sludge) and it looked great!

Have done a demo-pk3. Who wants to see it? I have no place to put it, but I've sent it to Surgeon, so let's see, what happens...

Yes and no, as far as I know: You won't play videos

but you can make them scroll like the water textures. Study the misc_outside.shader in the pak0.pk3. There you will find the shader-info for the water-textures which you can use as a basis for writing own shaders for scrolling textures.

Intreresting that subpen_water_clear uses 5 different images to produce the animation. The shader maps these as .tga files but they are all .jpg files

I think it's the .shader file that have animations.

Wow thx guys i'll check that shader out and see if I can come up - also I know the gate looks very dodgy at the moment but its one i made when I very first started mapping it'll do for the test at the moment then i'll build a better one

demo of the things I described above is downloadable here:
http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/plan ... argate.zip
You will find the .map and a .pk3 including the .bsp, the .shader and the textures.
Hope this will help!?
