Getting Back Into It

Hello, I used to be a big modder back in college with Quake I, but since then have been out of this kind of thing for a while. When my roommate brought home MOHAA I took an avid interest in this stuff again.

So, to make a long story short, I've been sweating over my first map in MOHAA going on now for 100+ hours, and it is nearing completion. However, I do have a few questions:

1) Is it normal for a good sized map to have a total compile time of about 7 minutes (full VIS)?

2) The PK3 tutorial, while helpful, didn't fully answer some of my questions. Is there anybody who has something a little more detailed aimed at the SP mapper?

3) I would like to release my map sometime in the near future. Actually, it is *our* map because my roommate is the guy who designs these things (he's a History major with a focus in WWII, so he's just loaded with info and books). When it is ready, can I get someone to playtest it, give us feedback, etc.?

1) Yes, it's normal.
2) To pk3, you must have the basics--maps which include the bsp, the min, the vis and the scr. These must be in a maps folder in your pk3. BTW, you can ask me. I'm more into SP mapping.
3) I can help you test it. And if it's very good, I may review it.

Thanks mohaa. I appreciate it. Don't worry, I try to take constructive criticism well.

If all goes well, my roommate and I have a set of campaign maps to work on after this.

Cool! Then I'll be the first one to beta test it. Need anything, email me @ mohaa_rox@planetmedalofhonor.com, or go to the IRC channel. I'm usually there.
