Can someone explain (or point me to a tut) the what when where and why's of using the vis brush.

I think th?re's one tut on vis for dummies at TMT. Ask around.

Yah - I understand the process of vis, I just want to know what the vis brush texture does for a map, and where you use it.

The vis texture itself is equal to the hint texture. All it does is count for a structural brush that you can't see. There are several tuts around on the usage of hint brushes, which will probably teach you all you want to know 8).
