Blocksize = 0 on outdoor map?

Post by Desert Eagle »

I have been reading several threads and tuts on Vis, Hint, Compling, etc...

Since a large portion of my map is being located outside, does anyone know if during compling if you set Blocksize to zero, will I gain and FPS or game performance. Or just a bad idea I read at TMT?

I do not care if map takes days to complie...lol, I am just after the best lighting, FPS, and game performance.

I have also see conflicting reports on visdatasize. What is the max?

Generally blocksize 0 is a good idea. If you set a blocksize, q3map will make splits in your view portals on a set grid. The performance gain is usually nothing, whereas it might have a considerable impact on compile time. There's really no reason why you would want anything but -blocksize 0.

Visdatasize can be 2MB at max.
