Ok, I have been working on a custom load screen for a map of mine.

I was able to get no where, couldnt get it to work.

I downloaded a full expample for Nemesis's site. It was a small map (just a room) so it could load with an example load screen. Of course it worked just fine.

I then opened pakscape ... and replaced his image with one of my own. I am not retarded either. My image was created in PS 7.0, was 512x512, save as .tga, and made sure it was 32 bit.

resaved the pk3, but this time it loads and is completely white where the picture is.

I've trippled checked all the image settings, even reopened to make sure I put it in correctly. Re-save the image several different ways.

Anyone run into this?

okay make sure the name of the tga is the one specified in the *.urc file "*=the name of your map"

and in the scripts folder make sure that the *.shader matches path& name of your file

which should be textures\mohmenu\dmloading for dm

hope that helps

No .. You dont understand.

I took a map that already works (it was a tutorial for the loading screen). I simply opened it in Pakscape, and swapped the loading screens. I repacked it and white!

I reopened the same pk3 file, put back in the old image (that came with the tut) and presto it works.

- filename was exactly the same
- it was a *.tga file
- size was identical (512x512)
- was saved at 32 bits

I even extracted the image that came with it, just put the word test arcoss it, saved OVER the original one ... and that wouldnt work.

Seems to be something with how Im saving, but as you can see I am doing every single thing I can think of.

If you have not added an alpha channel to your image, save it as 24 bit. Better yet save it as a jpeg.

There are a lot of posts here explaining how to get loading screens to work. One of the best is viewtopic.php?t=1545

Just read up on that forum link. Lots of good stuff. In the case of the loading screen, is there any advantage to using a tga over a jpeg besides the fading white border? Cuz if thats all it is, I can just make that in PS and keep it a jpeg :?

Unless you want to use transparent areas in your picture, I suggest you do all the manipulation to the image in your favorite editor and then save it as a jpeg. It is much smaller than a targa file.

Yeah ... thats what I dont get.

Why would you want a transparent area in your loading screen?!

One example of a transparent background used in a loading screen is the pushpin used in the dm loading screens for Spearhead.

Here is another idea for using transparency in a loading screen. Sorry it isn't done very well. I'm not a very good artist, but it is supposed to look burned.
