Did you place any lights in your map? Check for the tutorial in the tutorial section on how to make a basic room if you don't know how to add light. There is a tutorial on how you add light in an outdoor setting or just do a general search in the forum in the mapping section for sky lighting if its an outdoor map to get more answers on lighting. Any other questions, just ask. Someone here has the answer if I didn't help you any.

You have either not put a light in your map, forgotten to enter worldspawn values for suncolor, or there is a leak in your map somewhere ......

I tried a light, but too large an area for ordinary lamps. There are no leaks (at least none reported), and my worldspawn values are:
suncolor 80 80 80
sundirection -45 90 0

map compiles fine, but when run map, PITCH BLACK! HELP!!!!!!!

try this press n to bring up the entity window . choose worldspawn . enter the key ambientlight and the values 70 70 70 for normal light 10 10 10 for near darkness shadows look a bit funny due to low light . lights whole map with ambient light . try a low ambient light level with lights or spotlights to light up areas . also the sky tex creates light too so maybe use sky chaulk and fog or a low light emmiteing sky tex or just use it to brighten the shadows .

Do you have a skytexture on the skybox? If not there will be no light from the suncolor setting.
