I'm No Guru

Post by Gen Cobra »

I work countless hours to give young kids and adults alike a chance to have fun playing mohaa. I am a work in progress. Although this may seem off topic it, to me it is on the topic of mapping and the ability to do so.
I enjoy a constructive critic (because i am one), some people feel they need to down my work. I am sick of it. It may not happen here but this post is going to every site on the net that has my work.
I am no longer going to frequent Mod Theater because of people like MPowell. I was only there for a total of 7 posts and I recieved nothing but ignorant pms and hollow critics. I'm thinking of giving up on giving my maps to people period.
I thank those of you who like my work and even those that don't and have something worthwhile to say. I'm no guru in fact I am just a guy who loves this game.

GEN COBRA NOOOOOOOOOO. I said it once and i will say it again. TMT sucks (For me personally). They are just a bunch of snobs( no offense). I picked this site because i liked the friendship here. I think this site .MAP is the best out there even better the TMT. This site is great. And your mapping skills are awesome from my point of you. I just hope you wont quit on .MAP. We have many noobs me included. I am in dire need of mapping skills from people like you Gen Cobra so please if you are going to stop mapping stop uploading and asking q's at TMT.

Peace out bro.

I would point out that most of TMTs moderators come here and answer questions and many .map moderators go to TMT to answer questions. Also, that most of TMTs regular contributors are also regular contributors here.

Most people on TMT are helpfull when they can be , though it does seem to be atracting some of the AA.com crowd recently.....Balr is right, myself, jv and others do regularly help out guys over at TMT and vice versa...this community needs to stick together as muh as poss.....but fel free to make .map your mohaa homepage :D

That's good. Help each other and get help. That's one of my school's motto.

Hey Gen Cobra, your screens show that you do some amazing s**t. I'll debate anyone that disses your work. 8)

But you are a bit insane, right? A normal person would not be able to produce such cool stuff...

I agree Cobra, it's no fun getting lame replies or poinless feedback, especially when you're doing the best you can to make good stuff. That's no fun at all. Nor is it to get no reply when you really did your best to help a guy out. In fact it has happened to me more than once that I spent a whole evening trying to fix someone's problem and then they simply don't bother to reply at all.
But I think there are enough nice guys here and on TMT (I'm a long time reader from their forums but I just seem to prefer the 'smaller', more personal forums; tmt has about 1,500 users and a lotta people just ask questions and don't do anything back.) But again, there's still a lotta guys who really do care and like the things we bring to the community. (Speaking of community, have you seen the "Help a fallen soldier"-thread over there? The guys (some of the regulars) are making someone a map to honor a deceased clan-member. I think that's a pretty nice gesture. What I mean is there'll always be a small group of regulars. Guys who are willing to put time into giving feedback and also love the game.

One day I hope to release my MoH-map and I hope to get some feedback and enthusiasm, but my main goal is to be proud of what I've accomplished with just a few buggy tools and a shitload of patience. For real, in my Quake2 mapping days all I wanted was a review on PlanetQuake and some recognition. For a long time nothing happened with the maps and I felt pretty pissed off about it, because I knew they were solid maps. Then, finally I did get two reviews on Planetquake thanks to a guy named Musashi who was doing the reviews. Good stuff won't go unnoticed I guess. And in the end all the stuff you do now will only help you improve future maps and projects.

(edited: *looks at the clock* OMG: 1.43 am, I should be in bed;)

I'm a snob? DOH!

As far as criticism cobra, and this is from not knowing what mpowell said/did, you have to learn to accept and even appreciate whatever you get. Back in my counter-strike mapping days my first map looked like @#%@#$@ and therefore I was flamed/laughed at to hell. They even said I couldn't be a good mapper I'd just stay a n00b :(. Even now I take criticism like that from Newt on TMT (you may know who he is :P) with appreciation because what he said about ED, though very harsh, was right (He said it played like crap, and it did :( ). However I'm not saying to encourage people to be openly harsh and vulgar with their criticisms I'm just pointing out that even if a person is an a$$ going about it he may be right.

Anyway that's just my 2 cents =D

Well to me people who are ignorant and have hollow thoughts are not worht my time nor anyone elses. I could care less about these people. The ones who have information that I can benefit from are the ones that deserve my attention.
