how to make barrels ..quickie

make a brush that looks like a barrel, texture it, right click and make it a func_barrel and put in the barreltype stuff (water, oil, empty).

This is how you make a barrel.
Before you slap a brush down place a info>player>axis or allies or start onto the map. This is to get a general idea of how big you want your barrels to be in relation to the player. Deselect it and slap down a square brush. Then right click it and goto Brush> 9 sides or arbitrary sided (i use 10 personally or 12) Righty..now.. find the barrel 1a texture and teh barrel top 1a texture and barrel bottom 1a texture . Size the figure to the right size you want.
Ctrl+rightshift+ leftclick the surrounding sides NOT the top or bottom and select the barrel texture you just found. You can mess with it but I just fit to face by clicking Fit at the bottom of the screen. Now do the same for the top with barrel top texture (fit to face) and with the bottom (fit to face).
Zzzzzz..... oh sorry. I don't sleep much.
Righty... now with the barrel highlighted rightclick the barrel and goto func>barrel.
WAIT your not done yet.

Now with the barrel selected again hit N on the keyboard. It'll bring up the dialog box.
You'll see this in the dialog box. These are the instructions for making a barrel's fuctionality(i think that's a word).

Bashing only makes thunk or gong sounds (depending on wether it's full or not)
Bullets and explosions effects are dependant apon the type of barrel.
"barreltype" sets the type of barrel that it is. Valid settings are:
- "water" makes the barrel be filled with water.
Always non-volitile. Only destroyed by explosion.
- "oil" makes the barrel be filled with oil.
Leakes oil when shot (not destroyed), shower of flames when exploded.
- "gas" makes the barrel be filled with gas.
A few bullet hits will make it explode.
Explosions will also make it explode.
- "empty" makes the barrel completely empty.
Does nothing special at all. It's just a poor empty barrel. aww

What you wanna do is in the key entry type barreltype and in the value entry type gas. Now it will explode and kill your ass and others. Type barrel/oil and it shoots oil out. Gas barrels can blow up oil barrels and explosions affect them all. You can make a water barrel but that's just boring. BTW you can put health for the key and 100 for the value or whatever you want the health to be of the barrel or strength if you will.

I use a cylinder when I make my barrels, I think that it looks better. If you have the first mohradian (not the one that came with Spear SDK), then you have a map called "firefight.map" (I think that's the correct name). You will find barrels in that map, find a barrel and select the cylinder, the cap brushes and the orgin brush that is at the bottom of the barrels. Save them as a prefab. Load it up into a new map, put different textures on! Benzin, oil and water barrels. Make one barrel for each type and save them as prefabs. Then when you want a barrel just load a prefab!
