hold on... I have a large amount of skyboxes collected over the years from
the Wadfather. (go to Environment Maps and you'll find about 468 files;) When you find one you like, try downloading the Quake3 version if available. Although most of 'em won't really fit a 'real life'-game, there's plenty of nice ones to choose from. Here's a picture of some of the night/evening skies I have.
So, for a custom sky you need a skybox (consisting of 6 images) and a shader file. The 6 images go into 'main/env' and your shader goes into 'main/scripts'. (You might even want to add a little picture for radiant in the 'main/textures/sky' directory.) The shader will be something like this:
textures/sky/yourcustomskyname
{
qer_editorimage textures/sky/yourcustomskyname.tga // the name of the radiant pic
qer_keyword utility
qer_keyword sky
surfaceparm nolightmap
surfaceparm noimpact
surfaceparm sky
skyParms env/yourcustomskyname 512 -
}

WOW

Cool. I needed this. This is gonna be fun. I got a great one after picking through abotu a 100 and added the shader files for them and threw them in radiant and they look sweet. I don't know about realistic but they will fit my map great.
God Bless

there is a program for createing custom skies like that . A bit to understand but works good . It is called terragen

yep, terragen is a great tool but it's very time consuming to create skies like you see on the Wadfather. There is also a photoshop plugin at wasabisoft.com that lets you create cubic graphics, called Skypaint. But believe me there's enough good skies out there, so I'd rather stick to the mapping part. For more info on skies, see the Q3shader manual, it's all there.
ey tuffstuff, I just sent it to you. Extract the zip file to mohaa/main and you're ready to use it; and don't forget to include all these files in your .pk3 when you distribute your map.
The sky was made by Nexus, so please give credit where credit is due.
