Prefabs

Just thought of another question. When a map is getting larger, it is harder to add stuff (for me anyway). Is there anything wrong with making buildings, and whatever else, saving as a prefab and then adding it into the larger map?

E

In fact: any info on prefabs would be good - I'm just getting into using them.

nope, that'd b the best way 2 edit buildings, looking at stairs and certain lining of walls etc... on the 2D maps r easier 2 c when u don't have all the other brushes in the way,

if you just create the outline of the prefab ur making copy that 2 another map and edit it in there, then save it 2 the prefab, it'll keep the X Y and Z location points and insert it exactly where it came from,

remember when saving a prefab tho, 2 have all the brushes selected that are going in2 the prefab, it doesn't trace all the brushes in the map :D

Build the map in Layers.
I build many smaller *.map and then LOAD them into one to comipler
I have one for the ground (terrain and natural stuff)
a skybox
Then split the buildings up into single groups.

Then just click on load and choose the map, then load the next one and the next one untill you hav ethe complete map loaded.

This way if you have any error of something needs re-worked you are
not trying to find it in a BIG MAP.

Yeah, great idea. Easier to work on a building when it is seperated by itself. Radiant does have some good things going for it. :)

another thing that you can so is on the top view create a large brush that is as long and wide as the area you want to edit then on the top menu called region select tall brush everything that is not inside this area from top to bottom will seem to disappear easier to see it then in the other views and in a large map you can move the camera around your map better . then later when you want to see it all again choose regeion off .
