texture troubles

just started mapping and have come across two problems on my 2nd map that I cannot solve.
First: I'm trying to use a texture (fin1) that is supposed to represent a tunnel running off into the distance. No matter how I adjust the size (I have tried both cntrl F and surface properties) the texture looks perfect in radient but after compiling the texture is shown as small images that are tiled to fill the area.
Second: I have a couple of brushes that look fine from one side but are transparent from the other. I have tried different textures, deleted and re-created the brush, surface texturing and complete texturing. Still the same results.

Sounds like you're talking about window textures. But I think your problem is that you must have 'caulk' or 'no draw' on the transparent side...or some other 'common' texture. Can you explain what you are making and what textures you are using? If it IS windows, you need the same texture on BOTH sides. Caulk is fine for the outside edges/top/bottom, but both panes of the window have to have the same texture.

no it is not a window. It is a texture that requires a specific size.
I have a couple of jpg shots but don't know how to place them here.
The texture is in the metal catagory and is called fin1 it represents a train tunnel extending off into the distance.

Just to say: I've had similar tproblems to the one u describe with the tunnel texture - they look fine in Radiant but in the game they're all small + there's loads of em.

Well I cant find your texture your speaking of, but from what your telling me sounds like this texture requires no draw applied to all sides and this tunnel texture is only applied the the front surface.
As for the other issue, sounds like your not building off of "caulk" or "nodraw" and you are appling textures to all surfaces and the compiler is removing surfaces.

with the tiled texture it is only applied to the side that is seen. The rest of the brush is caulk.
In regards to the transparent brush I tried something else. I deleted the brush, dragged my mouse cursur around in the area to see if there was anything else to select - nothing there, went and compiled it and found the brush still there?? I believe I see something that looks like a thin thread running through where the brush is supposed to be, but am unable to find an end or select what I do see.
To all who have taken time to read and to respond I thank you kindly for the suggestions
