Welcome to my first Modeling Tutorial
Please bare with me if you find something wrong

This is a tutorial for beginers.
After searching a while on the net I couldnt find almost no tutorials on Modelling for Medal of

honor. So I decided to make my own.

Tools needed

1)Milkshape 3d 1.6.5 from http://www.milkshape3d.com (Latest version)

2)Then you will need to get Gmax from http://www.discreet.com (Latest version)
3)For Gmax also get the help files and the tutorials.
4)And you will need a Quake3 .MD3 exporter for GMAX get it with the SDK or Download it
from the .MAP download page.
4)Lots of patience. Hehe ;)

Open up Gmax. This is a free version of 3ds max which is really expensive. But this one is free.
You will see four screens usually called top front left perspective (dont worry about that now).

Now at the right side there is a toolbar. Click the Arrow with the light behind it called

"create". Its together with 7 different tabs. It should be the first tab out of 7. Now we are

going to start at the very basics. We are going to create a tea pot first ;). Right below
the Green box that says Object Type should be a + or a - if its a - dont to anything else.
If its a Plus click the plus.
Right below the green box with the words Object Type should be different types of menus'

Box Cone
Sphere geoShere
Cylinder Tube
Torus Teapot
Plane.

Now click the Teapot and go to the graph. Start clicking and dragging. This should make the

teapot bigger or smaller.
Now Right click in the one of the windows and Convert to editable mesh.

Now you created a model. Congratulations. :)

Make sure to save your work

File--> Save as--> Teatpot.gmax-->Save

NOw you should do this. Take the Quake III .MD3 patch that you got from .MAP and paste it into

the plugins folder of GMAX. So where ever you installed Gmax open the folder and find something

named Plugins or plugin and paste the QII .MD3 file there. This is a file that will let you

export in a Quake file.

Now click file export and pick .Md3 and give your file a name. Remeber if the plugin doesnt show

up in the export window then just exit gmax and restart it.

This will open a window and where it says "The Following Frames" _______ put in the Number 1 and

click export now. This will give you a few errors but DONT WORRY hehe. Click ok. Then once its

done exit Gmax and open up Milkshape. Remeber Milk shape has only 30 days worth of workin (its a

demo). IT will turn off after 30 days. For it to work just Register it.

Now once Milkshape is open do this

File--->Import--->Quake3 model
once its open Look at it and then do this
File--->Export-->MOhaaSkb model. IT will give you a box set the paths to where the game is and

the paths to where the milkshape folder is.. etc etc and click export. Wala this should do thee

trick.

Now open up MOHRadiant. And rightclick---->Milkshape--->Name of model. This should put your

model into your game.
Congratulations your now an official modeller noob.

ive come across a few erros when importing into milkshape, at first i thought it was the size of the file. but it seems to be the amount of faces or vertices any idea what the max faces or vertices, would be that are supoorted?

2273 vertices
1739 faces

work alright, ill see if i can find the max if no one has it.
thanks

yep, your tut, is was i was working with, great info. i downloaded some 3d models of tanks and jeeps and things. but it seems like milkshape will only "see" smaller models.

thanks

is there a way that you guys know of to scale a prefab? say i make a basic room in milkshape, export it as a prefab for radiant and load it to the owrk screen, is there a way to make it larger or smaller?

i tried the freescaleing option but im not sure what it does. its hard to make something in milkshape or gmax where the size would work correctly in radiant. once i solve that ill be in it to win it.

thanks

I think you have prefab and model mixed up. Prefabs are created in MOHRadiant. And Models are created in 3d programs. prefab is just a map file which is saved as .pfb extension. If there is a prefab exporter for a 3d model software program I would like to know where you can get one.
