Post by [OM] Virox »

i would like to know how these camonets are made? with brushes or something from the curve menu? after some days trying and searching things i sitll can't figure out how these are made like on this brecourt pic.

I will tell you straight off the bat. MOHAA doenst have Cammo nets that look like that. Those are from the Band of brothers site. Ask them for the file. But I Doubt that they will give it to you.

Don't like to contradict, but:
misc_outside/nettingtest is a nice camo net. Another one is central_europe_winter/netting_winter
Make a brush with e.g. one face the camonet, and all other faces 'nodraw' or a 'simple patch mesh' with texture camonet! That should do it!
How the ones on the screeny are made, I can't see exactly, probably with brushes because they look rather edgy. Which way to choose depends on what your netting should be shaped anyway. If it should be curved, use a curve/simple patch mesh, if the faces shall be planar, do some brushes! :D

And: Make your screens smaller! Read the forum rules...

that camo is somewhere in the misc_outside map. I already founded but i wasn't talking about the texture but about the shape of the nets

@ wacko thx, i allready thought it was made that way but for me it looked a bit as a noobisch way to make those nets so i thought there was something i had missed, but i guess not.

btw sorry about the screen size it's not mine i just took it from the bob site as example. It's now an url

you should usually use the patch mesh to make the camo nets...but that depends on 'how' you want to use them. Some guys use regular brushes like described above.

IF you use the mesh, you should create one, modify it's vertical/horz. points as you want it to look, draped, etc. THEN create a copy and INVERT it so that it creates a mirror of itself that is essentially flipped inside-out. That will make it look right... If you use a mesh, you can ONLY see the texture from the 'top' or textured side, if you make a net that you can walk around/under, from the 'back' side you will see nothing, hence the need to create a mirrored one. Works great on making tarps too for tents or other covered objects using a mesh.

Hope that helps and isn't too confusing.

 Slyk, what textures do you use for the netting? I'm using misc_outside/nettingtest, which is visible from both sides, you could see a cull none in its shader.
So you won't have to duplicate the mesh (double amount of triangles!!). If you wanted to use another texture, you would just have to put a cull none in a new custom shader, which you'd have to write for this.

You can apply "NO DRAW" to one surface.
Live to map, not map to live.

Wouldn't look very spectacularly, or how many surfaces do your patch meshes have?
Regarding normal brushes, though, that's just what I already have said...

I've never seen the patch mess be visable from both sides, using the misc_outdoor texture. I've used a tent/canopy texture and done the mirror thing I described above. In a couple cases where I did use the camo nets, I used regular brushes with the 'no draw' texture on all sides but one. You can do a variety of things though by using the vertex edits and matching brushes to change angles, show dips/rises etc in the netting. Or just do it easy and leave them straight.......just don't forget some stakes to hold it in place.

 Built my last tent quiet a long time ago, so I had it somewhat different in memory:
I must confess: It doesn't work with the standard textures. Sorry Slyk, sorry sorry.
But here you can download a pk3 including a .map, a .shader and the .bsp of what you see down below, and that's made with a doublesided textured patch mesh!

I have made them with LOD Terrain. You will not see the camo texture from underneath, but they look very good from outside, so you do not have to have them look like a square or triangle.

The netting seen on brecourt is just a series of triangles.
You can use patchmesh like others have said, but I dont like using Patchmesh.
Cause frame rate drops, and not really that important.

Now also what I have done is made the netting a no solid so players can run thru it.

Dont be afraid to ask anyone on the BoB team a question.
We have forums too.

I stand corrected. I was making a refrigerator room in my map and typed the words Snow in the white box to get everything. And what I got was the Camo texture. Pretty neat though.
