wow-6 months mapping and i had no idea what caulk did

well, actually, that's a lie-in fact, that's the most basic thing in every tutorial u read

it's really profound being a n00b, isn't it :?:

i'm jk man-it's great that u've found this out, but this is pretty rudimentary knowledge-it sounds as if u are in need of tuts...

- the tutorial section here on the front page
- http://mohtut.8m.com
- http://www.modtheater.com (front page-left table)
- AND MANY MORE! Just do a google search, you'll find many more... :D

OH AND BTW:

Using caulk may raise your framerate, but usually the culprit of a poor fps is bad vis design, coupled with the overuse of shruken textures, patch meshes, and LOD terrain

Houses that the players can't enter should not be hollowed out! Balr14 (TMT forum) said that empty spaces are seen by vis, even if it's all caulk surfaces inside.

I've got a hands on tut on optimizing FPS in "thight spots" here.

(Its for when you caulked all surfaces you can and the FPS still is to low ).

Maybe be a good point but I don't think it's true . Unless you have leaks or entities in the hollowed out house the space inside will be ignored completely.

Terrain

If I uderstood right, LOD terrain is not seen by vis. So, if the hollowed out house has no floor (other than terrain), the space inside will be added.
