Add/Remove Weather Effects

I'm trying to add/remove weather effects to existing maps but so far slightly failed. (I was able to take rain off the gewitter map)
Fog is my serious problem. I have read everything i could find via search but I can't get it. $world farplane_color is what effects fog, correct?
One minor problem, I can't get weather effect to add....but I really haven't tried to get this as much as fog.
Any comments, pointing to reference material or sample code would be very much appreciated.
