Terrain

How can you cut or extend a terrain? I dont understand the patches bit.
LOD:
To edit highlight your LOD terrain and hit "v" and drag points to fine tune it. To edit if further use "Shift + f" and then hold "Ctl + Shift" while selecting Facets of you LOD. The menu that pops up has further editing options.
Patch mesh:
To edit highlight your patch and hit "v" and drag points to what to want.
Those are both basic explanations...
