With Call of Duty looking more and more promising I thought that i'd keep you guys updated with the latest titbits :
Gamespy have an E3 Preview
- At the core of Call of Duty, as described to us by Activision senior producer Thaine Lyman, is the mindset that "no one soldier was a superhero," and "no one country won the war." To that end, Call of Duty allows you to step into the boots of three ordinary soldiers across three separate campaigns -- American, British and Russian. While most of the missions will have you fighting alongside large numbers of fellow soldiers, each of the campaigns has its own flavor: the U.S. missions are fairly straightforward and based on force; the British missions are a bit more stealty and rely more on intel; the Russians rely endless waves of soldiers and an unwillingness to fail.
- Call of Duty is scheduled for a 2003 release, and is to be the first in a series of games for Activision. It was recently announced that a second Call of Duty title for consoles is in the works -- we'll have more on both games over the coming weeks.
- The Galactica game, however, is surprisingly hoke-free. The storyline is set 40 years prior to the TV series, as the player is thrust into the role of Ensign William Adama, the character played in the TV series by Lorne Greene (who gave more gravitas to the role than it probably deserved). The Cylons, which were a bunch of incompetent silver Stormtrooper wannabes in the series, are downright nasty in the videogame. I'm curious if the upcoming Sci-Fi series (which stars Edward James Olmos in the Lorne Greene role!) will also be devoid of campy humor.
