The triangles do not vanish in the editor. If you select LOD Terrain/Color Facet Flags, you will see them as a see-through gray color. If you select them, and dont have anything checkmarked in the facet editor when you press done, they will go back to normal terrain.

can I get some help with facet flags? im using lod terrain for my ground above the trenches, but some of the triangles interfere with my trenches walls.

I open up the thingy (shift,f) but when I click on a triangle nothing happens.

To select an individual poly to edit, you need to ctrl + shift + LMB on the individual polys in 3d view.
They will then have a transparent white marker on them so you know which you have selected.
Once the polys you wish to edit are selected, you can check the appropriate box, and then click Done.

There is an LOD Terrain Manual in the MOHTools/docs folder. It tells how to use the facet editor. You should also delete the facets under buildings and roads to lower the face count.

One more important point! Check your terrain with all the different "Detail" settings in the game. If you have it on high or max, a player with it set on low will think you are a bad mapper! You can force him to see it on max by editing the facets to "max detail" around things like buildings, river banks, and trenches. Doing that will also prevent those facets from changing with distance because the game normally lowers the Level Of Detail with distance. Setting facets to "Max Detail" will cost game prefomance, but it will make you map look a lot better.

ok, so i got a question. you know how if the lod terrain isnt low enough under roads, you see that black stuff? if i make the lod terrain around there max detail, will that go away?

Ahhh thanks! I didn't know how to select them  But thanks! And tltrude, what you said, Check your terrain with all the different "Detail" settings in the game. Does that mean like in the game options  Advanced  Texture Detail? Or something with one of the options?

Most of the black spots will go away when you do final lighting compile. But, it is a good Idea to delete as many facets under the road as you can. Making them max detail will keep the terrain stable at a distance, but it may not be worth the preformance drop. Use max detail only on the very bad spots.

Terrain Detail in the game is under options/advanced.

Here is an example of the terrain "tessalating" at a distance. The far side of the little bridge dropped underwater at a distance. I made just a few triangles "max Detail" and it was fixed.
