i made a fairly large peice of terrain ... added some trenches... and some craters.. except one thing... the craters.. they have funky triangles instead of nice smooth holes where bombs have gone off i get these things that look like pyramids growing from them :? how do i get rid of these? :?

I radiant, make sure your terrain scale is set to 1 (terrain -> scale 1). You should now see the funky triangles and should be able to correct them (set radius to 64 in terrain -> area filter).

How the terrain looks in the game depends on how much you have your detail level turn up in advanced options. You can, however, force everyone to see max detail where you want it.

Hold shift + Ctrl and click on the terrain. Then hit SHIFT + F to bring up the facet editor. Click on the little triangles you want to be max detail and put a checkmark on max detail and click done. To see them in the editor you click on LOD Terrain/color surface flags.

I noticed in mohradiant the terain looked ok but after compileing you all of a sudden get those pyrimids . One way to see them is cntl-shift left mouse click on the part of the terain you think they are in . You will see one patch of the terain selected . Look above and below the patch , the white lines are what the terain will really look like . One reason is what you had your area filter set at when you edited your terain . Click terain on the top menu . Select show area filter if you set it to 64 units only the one vertice you select will raise or lower when you raise or lower verices but the terain does not show it some times . One way to cure it is select all your terain click v to show vertices drag a box around the area that the pyrimid is in click move vertices on the terain menu and then move to highest or lowest on the menu that pops up . then with the area still selected cntl click one verticie that is the right height for what you want and move vertices again . This will create a flat area in the area you selected but the pyrimids will be gone . Just redo it and make sure your area filter is not set too low .
