LOD Terrain

Ok, tried my hand at LOD terrain yesterday for the first time though I gotta say I was less than impressed with the results.
I've got a few problems but my main one is this: I followed the tutorial on this site and everything went fine, but my terrain was way too angular. Doesn't changing the triangle size make any difference to the compiled map? Increasing the triangle size makes the terrain much more smoother and rolling, but when I compile the map it reverts to the smallest triangles and ends up quite pointy. What gives?
Another thing, how come nades seem to disappear through the terrain?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

i think the scale that shows how big or small the triangles are is just to show you how your terrain would look under the terrain video setting or curve detail. i forgot which one, but they make triangles either bigger (less detail) or smaller (more detail). you cant actually change how big or small the lod triangles are, it just shows how it would look at certain video settings.

Yep

How it looks depends on the Level of Detail (LOD) you have set in the game options. IN you map you can make impotant parts of the terrain "Max Detail". That is done with the facet editor (Shift F).
