I'm stuck

I've been trying to do a part of a tutorial for a few days now, but I can't seem to do it
The tutorial:
http://dynamic5.gamespy.com/~manstein/i ... 8c6cb37811
I get stuck at the end of '2. The Terrain'.
I can't seem to move my vertices under my road so they look like his in the picture! How has he done it? Surely he hasn't moved each individual vertex to get that effect!? I've been trying to move lots at a time (drag that blue box over the vertices I want to move).
I know it's a bit of a pain in (_!_) <----- (Bum!) to explain this, but I really would like to know.

In the MOHTools/docs folder there is a manual on how to do terrain. To select one row hold Shift and left click--left click again to change the direction of the selection. If you hold Ctrl and Shift, you can select multiple rows. And if you only hold Ctrl you can select/deselect single ones.
If you want, you can detach a 512 X 512 patch before you do it, but it will morf (change shape) when you reattach it.

Oh dear! When I made my terrain I connected the individual 512x512 terrain pieces together. How do I seperate individual patches?
I tried the 'selection' ----> 'ungroup entity/brush' and 'Disconnect entities', but that didn't do anything.
When I select an individual terrain section (ctrl+shift+L-click) it highlights it in white. If i push 'v' it doesn't select any vertices!
If i select the whole terrain (all of them connected) I can select the vertices but I can't get 'Shift+A' to do anything!
Argh, so many problems

ok without anything selected, hld down ctrl + shift + left click on your terrain it will select a 512x512 area. Hit shift+x and that should seperate that patch from the rest - you can continue to do this for all the terrain if you wish. To connect them again just drag the square awaya a little and move it back

How and what do you use 'Shift+A' on?
I tried using it on a caulk brush, does nothing. I tried it on terrain, does nothing, just how do you use it? The SDK terrain editing manual doesn't help.

Shift + A brings up the Terrain Area Effect filter.
