FPS??

Post by Snake »

My first map is ready, but my Fps are not so good at some places.
I already ussed some Vis-leafgroups, but its difficult to use them in my map.
I can't use areaportals because i have buildings where you can enter with to many windows, so it's not possible.
Why are the Fps so low in my map, is that because i use alot of those static models like trees/bushes or to many buildings?
Are there not other solutions to upgrade my Fps in my map, and can somebody help me with it?

My computer specifications are:

Gforce mx400 64mb with 512ram DDR

So if someone wonna help me with this, then here is my link to my map:

Using lots of models will decrease the fps. Are you detailing "non-blocking" brushes ?

Yes i use alot of detailed brushes, so ussing of detailed brushes is good for the visdatasize but not so good for the Fps?
I compiled my map with blocksize 0 because my Visdatasize is to big for a final compile, the visdatasize is 150.000 with the detailed bruses and with those visleafgroups it is 1000.000.
Here is a picture from my map in mohradiant:

Dude! You have some serious skills... that map is beautiful!
My lowest FPS was 35... thats OK... I've got a Gforce TI4600 with 512ram DDR on a AMD +1800

I had a little look at your map - I'm very impressed - Its a very good map for your first one. I don't get a really low FPS anywhere but then i was only playing it on my own. One suggestion on the mapping side - the church graveyard could do with being made of LoD terrain.

Here is the FPS problem: Way too much is drawn when it does not need to be:

Same view without r_showtris set to 2:

Read my Targeted vis_leafgroup tutorial and you fix it in a snap. :D
GREAT work.

I already ussed some 12 Visleafgroups for my map, but it's to difficult to place them in my map because i have to much open spaces.

Have you targeted them correctly?

Yes, they are targeted correctly. All that work for nothing because my Fps is to low, that make my map not playable.
Bjarne maybe (if you got time) i could send the map to you, so you can take a look where to place those visleafgroups correctly?

Yes, shure, I can take a look at it ( but I do not promise anything ). Mail me the map and your MSN / ICQ / IRC ( or any other 3-letter messaging service of your choice  ) and maby I can give you some useful hints.
