Like I've said before, I'm a newbie mapper, and I was just wondering how you view the script files for the original game. I tried opening the pak3 files with a text editor (notepad) and all I got was a bunch of crap, no discernable words. Help please!

Hey Ace

The notepad won't recognize the .pk3 format. Get pakscape ( Nemesis' site has it with a tutorial). It opens up the .pk3. Once you do that you will see .scr files, probably in a maps folder. I drag the .scr file to my desktop and then open it with notepad. That should work. Good luck! DG

Here's the link for Pakscape:

Yep editscript is very useful, especially as you can edit the script save it and then type restart in the console, to see how the new script performs.

Another useful console command is notepad

notepad is the same as editscript, the difference being the editscript auto loads the current script for the map your playing

*WARNING ... if you use editscript and save it, it saves a copy to the correct folder location, i.e. maps/obj/currentmap.scr

Problem is that if you then load the map in the future, the engine uses the script in that folder first (and ignores the one in pk3).

So make sure you either delete the scr when your finished, or copy it back into your pk3 so you don't loose the changes.
