Hi everyone,
First what is a Backwards tree volume? Is radiant deliberately putting me through every possible error with this map!!?
The screen prints are temporary textures, but the retextured map wont compile for some unknown reason its over so quick I can see whats wrong. I tried using MOHphile too but can't find the LOG file its supposed to produce.
Can someone check it for me?
I have resumed it after abandoning the first version more than a month a ago due to some difficulites that were intoduced by Easygen which require a total restart after a month's work arg!
What I need is an experienced mapper willing to review my work and suggest improvements and additions. I am particularly interested in getting fps and vis right.
I am inexperienced in getting these aspects right, where to hint, use viz brushes etc.
Beyond this I am happy to accept any suggestion with regards to anything from game play to textures to daylight settings anything.
The attempt to bring this battle to the game raises many issues that need to be balanced, respawns, how to scale cliffs, how far to take the senario all the way to the Orchard where the guns had been moved? to provide an objective distant enough from the respawn to give the game depth. Yet with a limit of 20 players how to convey a battle involving hundreds.
I want to structure it like hunt so that there are areas because the cliffs area is a large open area and I want to limit the drag on fps this would entail if the whole map is wide open, yet not reduce the sense of openness......yes I know I want it all!
I want the map to be worthy of the people who took part in the actual action and give gamers a decent looking map with decent game play and an element of originality.
While it has by definition to be difficult for allies it needs to be more balanced than lets face it the majority of maps and without doubt the orginal SP converstion MOH maps.
A further area I will need help with is scripting. I have some of the basics but have yet to fathom the finer points and clever stuff.
So basically a friendly eye and if possible a degree of deeper involvement.
I have worked hard to research the battle and get the terrain first right and near enough within reasonable limits of my ablilites to be instantly recognisable.
I have kept quiet plodding alone making mistakes slowly but now there is some else starting a Point DU Hoc map (TMT forum)... not really a surprise.
I looked at the map someone HANDED him to carry on and was appalled and pleased. It was no where near as attractive as mine, little effort had been made to replicate the sense of scale involved nor the qualitity of building.
