compiling problem

I'm using MBuilder to compile my map but it seems to be stalling out. During the vis part, it gets to about 15-20% and then stops, I've let it go for an hour or more but it never starts again. The map isn't very big so it shouldn't take that long.

I have been messing around with clipping and I thought maybe that had something to do with it, so I took some of those brushes out but still no luck. I still have some clipped brushes left but they're not very complicated.(one clip)

I also inserted a large building as a prefab from one of my previous maps, could that be it?

There is nothing in the compiling errors post about this and I couldn't find anything with a search of the mapping forum either.

If I say detailed brushes, do you understand what I'm talking about?

:D Good. If you are in any way unsure about their use read VIS for dummies, It opened my eyes.

Do yo get any errors at all when compiling?

yeah i have read that tut. I do have a few detail brushes in the map so far. The map is only about 25% done and I'm just compiling the map to see how things look during play. I've compiled the map once already and it only took about 5 min to finish. I added some more stuff including the clipped brushes and the large prefab and now the compiler stalls.

I get just 3 warnings:
1. downgrading to old animation.........
2. 2-could not find models...........

No errors.

The LARGE prefab sounds dangerous...

Do this:

Add ' > C:\vis_compile.txt' to the end of the VIS compile commandline, and post the contents of the resulting text file here.

Like this:

Code: Select all

Q3map -vis -gamedir C:\MOHAA C:\maps\test.map > C:\vis_compile.txt

It was the prefab, I took it out and the compile finished in less than 10 min.

Thanks for the help.

BTW, for future reference, I'd have no idea how to add that line. How exactly do you do that?
