My vis is 447,456 right now for the airport and I know it will top 500, 000 when I am done. Is this a bad thing?

the more it is, the more places vis has to check out. for example, a simple box map would have a low vis data size, but a large map with lots of different vents and pathways etc would have a huge vis data size. wouldnt really call that 'bad' it just means vis has more work to do...

The only prob that i can see is that it may cause any system with a low end graphics card difficulties in running the map, although if its a sp map it wont affect you.
(btw im only writing this out of boredom, i could be complety wrong in it, but i dont think so, and im sure they let you know wether i am or not)

The Max visdata size you can have is bigger than that (can't remember off hand how big the max is). It affects your compile time, but not really the maps performance

I think the max is about 2 megs . If you can make some of the brushes detail and keep the major brushes structural . Avoid too many doors and windows .

Just making steps detail will reduce the compile time a lot.

Beleive me I detailed what should be detailed but I get the feeling that the size of this airport is a little large considering it takes up a good protion of the allowed space in the editor.
Just wondering.
thanks guys.

Maybe a stupid question: but where can I find my visdata??
Cause I'm trying to make some detailed brushes but according to the tutorial I need to distract something of it... And if I don't know where I can find my visdata.. I'm not able to do it.
(According to
THIS tutorial.)

ur so lucky my vis size is 15 million
ok u select ur brush u want to make detail
right click in the grid and detail it
then deselect
then once u detail what u want
compile
while compileing u will c what ur vis data size is
and c how much it has decreased by knowing how much it was b4 u detailed
hope this helps

Don't you think 15 million bytes of VIS data is a bit high? You should make more stuff detailed, you've only got about half a meg of data left.

Yeah I noticed that in your other post.

Time to go on a detailing spree bud!

One more thing. Go to view > filter > detail (also do etities, translucent) all of of your room and hallways should be pretty much hollow, plain, and boring. Make rooms and buildings look square and rectanglish with these filters on. This keeps it simple for the compiler.
