Scaling airplanes as they fly by

Hi all,
Is it possible to scale an airplane object, say the C47 transport, so that it
apppears to get smaller as it flies into the distant horizon? At present I
understand how to make a plane fly a given path with info obtained from
Nemeisis tut.

thanks for any forthcoming help.

Never done it but you should be able to set the scale property of the script_object ( the plane )...

Thanks for your help. I will try to set scale on each info_splinenode and see what happens.

cheers

Setting the scale on the nodes woll not work... you will have to set the scale on the plane...

And increase it bu very small amounts at very short intervals to get the "growing" effect.

there is no "plane" when you use bomber.scr... each splinepath is the plane in a way... each one has a model, and i think you can just have the scale different at each splinepath dont know though.

why not just create an area that it's touching

then use the for loop, until it reaches it's size then shrinks again?

thanks Bjarne, Alcoholic, and Nuggets....

I tried scaling per node, as Bj indicated...that won't work, because as
Alcoholic indicated, one probably has to "somehow" scale the actual
plane object at each given splinenode path. Not sure how to do it either.

Then we have Nuggets suggestion to create an area that it's touching
then use the for loop, until it reaches it's size then shrinks again.

Sounds great Nuggets, if I only knew how to do what you suggest! I am
not being sarcastic. Just have no idea how do what you suggest.

Perhaps someone in the future can come up with a solution to this topic.
Then again, it may be a waste of anyone's time, for how often would scaling objects for this purpose would be used by most people. The planes fly by so fast we only get a few seconds at best of time. So it is
probably not worth wasting code space to set up this type effect.

BUT thank you guys for giving it a shot! Consider this topic closed unless anyone really wants to pursue it further.

best regards

try this

Anything in a sky box that is outside your normal sky box will be visable. So try slapping an extra sky box on the outside of your current skybox and extend the path of your bomber.

try this in ur info_splinePATH (not node :P, nor a script_object :P 8-) ):

model:planenameblahblah.tik
targetname:x
target:x's next target
scale:x
#set:x

tltrude and mohaa_rox.... thanks

I will try both things you guys suggest. But for the additional sky box
solution. I already have the sky box at maximum size, that is it extends to the maximum grid size of the map (-8192.....8192) so I perhaps the
editor will not accept the additional sky box. But I will try it anyway just to
see if it will. As for mohaa_rox's suggestion. The settings you present for the splinepath node(s) is what I already have, LESS the SET statement. Again I will try both methods......thanks..
