Wow, that really sucks, i just spent all my time constructing this huge building for my map and i saved it as a prefab and now when i try to load it, nothing shows up.  WHAT HAPPENED!!!!! MY PREFABS PATH IS CORRECT, I MADE SURE OF IT! WHERE DID MY BUILDING GO?!?! When i found out that this happened i made a little box and saved it as "prefabtest" and when i loaded that it worked :?. I do not know what happened but that really pee'd me off that all my precious work was lost. Does anyone know what happened or a solution to my problem :?: When i made the tester to see it it worked i still had the brush selected when i saved it as a prefab so is that why it didnt work on my building, because nothing on my bulding was selected :? . If that was the problem then is there a way of getting my building back or am i totally out of luck and out of a kick ass building :?: please help me, thanks

Yes you have to select the brushes you want to save as a prefab. Only these brushes are saved into a .pfb file :(.

Maybe you have an old copy of your building roaming around somewhere? Maybe in the snapshots folder? Or the .bak file?

   are you sure there isnt another way to get it back? i cant find a backup of it so i gonna have to start over again if there isnt a way to get it  you say that you have to have the brushes selected in order to save them as a prefab so is there a way to select all of them at once or do you have to go on selecting each brush and everything else that is part of what you made in order to save it? what i mean is like is there an Edit > Select All or something that works in the same fashion?

To select your entire building, draw a large brush that completely covers the building, and then goto Selection--->Select inside. (I forgot the keystroke shortcut).

Hopefully, as jv_map said, you saved the building before you created the prefab. Search your maps folder for it's filename.

It has to be there somewhere.

alrighty, thanks a bunch, unfortunatly i could not find the file  but at least i learned that it is essential that you have the thing selected before you save it, ill just have to start over, no biggie, it will go quickly because i remmeber how pretty much everything was so, thanks for your help guys, highly appreciated :D

Make sure you selected all the stuff by going into TOP, FRONT, and SIDE
views and strech the select box to cover everything, Else you will sometimes NOT select everything that you want to save as that prefab.
For example, you may have a set of front door steps that are not selected if you do not go to a SIDE view and extend the select box over them.
I went through the same process you did. Spent days and days building up a huge building only to lose it all!

hang in there.

or you can just cover it up on the xy top view, and select complete tall.
