2 things that annoy me

1. When someone posts about 8 different questions on ythe mapping forum in about 5 minutes, all after another. If i needed halp help wih numerous things, i would post them in the same topic, entitled 8 questions or something. this otpic has 2 things in, instead of 2 seperate topics.
2. when eople ask 'help me find a [whatever] texture'
They are just too lazy to look throuhg the textures themselves like others (including me) do,
or they are just too lazy 2 make there own textures?

I know what you mean, and i totally agree. I have only been here at .map for about 2 months, but the search function is da bomb! But sometimes these guys only need guidance... Maybe its all about age and forum etiquette/manners...
Let's help out!

It can be frustrating and annoying sometimes - but as m0g says - some of the newer guys may be younger or just inexperienced - just try and give advice when you can - if you have serious doubts about someone PM one of the mods and we'll look into taking some kind of action.

Nowadays I basicly have one rule; if I take the time to look into their problem and try to answer their question, I at least expect some feedback. Something little like "okay thanks, I got it", or "Problem solved". That's all. If they don't seem to respond at all after I've answered their question(s) I simply ignore any other questions they post in the future. Simple as that and saves time too.

yeah, too true!!!
and also people that say they'll do / help with something, and you don't hear back from them ever again??? i mean what's up with that

Reish Vedaur
end
doens't bother me, it's no great loss, after being ignored by the afore mentioned name, i've now got 2 of the greatest mappers on the site helping out with a little something we're working on
(yes i know the corect grammar would of been to say "i'm working on", but it's a team thing)

What I hate are people that have no clue about mapping or scripting (or game design), yet they try to recruit a team they can lead from every mapping/scripting forum they can find.
I'm not talking about you, nuggets. You, at least, seem to know what you are doing, but kids are vulnerable to "clan" and "team" recruiters because young people need support systems.

True very true.
I always say do the job before you make someone else do it. That way you know the limitations and you know the problems they have. and well....
Its like someone from the twinky facotry (CEO) becoming the CEO of Boeing. There 2 different things You dont know how to boom business. Same goes with mohaa-- playing, and making the game.

I hate people that act like a total dumb*ss, and ask questions without even TRYING to solve it themself. I mean, one little error and, "whoop, i got an error better stop what im doing and ask others what to do." I mean, you could at least try SOMETHING before you ask... and another thing... SEARCH!!!!

Yep,
Search is the way to go, but not everyone is used to the way Forums works...

Some peeps are just plain lazy to read the Rules/sticky's, myself I try to read as much as I can, even other posts, just to see if there's something to be learned... but hey thats me, i got all the time in the world or maybe its just that im turning into a freak, lol!
Freak or not, I still think its good to point out to newcomers what/how to behave, and of course to be helpfull... if you can't be arsed helping out, others will. Thats the life of a forum. I must say that most of the people that i encountered here at .Map are big bunch of helpfull people and I would like to see it that way... There's other forums out there that lack in respect to fellow members and I know that will never happen here, thank god! So to all you lazy campers out there/here, I hope you dont takes this topic to hard, its just a topic to ventilate folks anger...
m0g's house rules:
1. Respect thy fellow member
2. Search the forum
3. Read. Learn. Work. Be productive.
4. Ask stupid questions if you cant find any answers on Search
5. Dont sleep
6. Dont be like m0g (who never sleeps)
peace n' out

I like it when people reply to their threads saying the problem has been solved, because that aids those who search in the future.
One that bother's me, more seen on PMOH and not much here, is when someone asks for help and leaves an email address to respond to them. They want you to not only help with their problem, but to email the response to them. It' a minor one, but always irks me.

I agree with all of you
someone should make this a sticky on the mapping forums, it would cut down on those annoying things.
one more:
when somone asks something, and there is a thread got going, someone is stuck blah blah blah. You offer your help, but so does someone else. Theyre thread gets answered, but yours is just ignored. That has only happened once to me on this forum, but loads on othe forums.
Stg.pepper wrote:I like it when people reply to their threads saying the problem has been solved, because that aids those who search in the future.
Totally agree. I have h answered loads of people questions, but no answer. I dont know whether they aren't following the topic anymore, or if they think a 'thanks' or 'got it sorted' would take too much effort and would stretch their manners (yeah, whatever). Its nice to know that your help is appreiciated, and when I get my topics answered I always post some kind of thanks, its worked.
thats got a few things off my chest!

It also helps that most of you regulars know how to behave and are polite and helpful - this encourages new members to act similarly. Where as if a forum is filled with swearing / flames - new members are going to follow suit.

Me and Reish are buddies, and I showed him this post and he said this:
I did contact him back, but he never continued corrispondence
He also mentioned you got all the help you needed... so you won't need it anymore then (I'm guessing its one of the admins)

hmmm... two comments 1st to tltrude
i'm not sure why exactly you used me specifically, although you may not think i know exactly what i'm doing, what i do do is to the best of my ability, (yes i know you said i'm not talking about you nuggets) but are you talkinga bout previous posters on this thread? why not use their name as an example?
if it because i don't make tutorials for everything i say? some of us have more pressing things to do
and to Sonsai
well you can tell your friend that only today i still recieved an offer for help,
you/he may of heard the saying many hands make light work, if not look it up, it's worth using
if he'd of continued to read the thread he'd of seen that after acquiring help i was still looking for more mappers, no correspondance? if a thread of 7 pages isn't keeping people up-to-date, i don't know what is
"this is a map i've not really been working on that long at all, and i'm hoping i'll have the motivation to keep it going and actually finish one, it's growing minute by minute and hour by hour, and then gets changed again the day after i've started adding more of the housing area around the exit of the square, so if you want 2 start adding the rooms to the back of the buildings in the square that'll be a start,
if ya like i'll send u an upto date version of the map, and decide if u wanna put any input into it, (hopefully you will) it's just really furnishings i get bored with so that's the general "big" want
hope to hear from ya soon, "
after sending the map is it still up to me to chase people and find out if they want to participate in what i'm trying to create???
Sonsai don't think for one minute i'm getting at you, i know your only passing on a message, but i'm hoping you'll pass this one back

nuggets come on. I think tltrude was talking about those guys that try to make
big mod teams without even having any idea how much hard work will be involved. He said he wasn't talking about you since you obviously know what you're doing. Yet you are accusing tltrude of accusing you

which seems incorrect and isn't a nice thing to do.
You seem to have a problem with one of the members (Reish Vadaur) but can't you work out this problem by pms or e-mail rather than publicly making Reish black
Anyway. I used to like this topic since there was lots of useful forum feedback and gave us all insight on some 'forum frustrations', useful information that can be used to improve the forums and make .map a better place to be for everyone.
But please stop accusing each other in this way or I'll just have to lock this thread
