Post by Mapping_Freak »

Hello everyone. Wow this site is cool. Everyone trys to help out with questions. Even ones from the noobs. Like me. well anyway I am new at this and I have to say I like this alot. I have a few basic questions I am sure you all have answered before but I cannt find them in the forum. Still getting use to it.

1. what is are the dimesions of the player in units? when standing and when crouched.

2. How high can the player jump?

3. what is the maximum hieght for a stair step?

4. how many units are there in a foot? Or what whould be a good amount?

Thanks for any help

minimum player height 64, which would be when crouched..
max height im not sure
how high can the player jump? I assume 64 but again I am not sure...

Lo - Welcome to .Map

Max step height (ie without having to jump) is 16 units...

1 foot = 16 units

And I'm pretty sure max jump height is around 64 units (though it can be 66 when taking a running jump)

1. Player are 96 uints high (96/16 = 6) or six feet, but a player needs 128 units of headroom when getting off a ladder at the top. They are 32 units wide and deep, but again you need a little more room to get on a ladder at the bottom.

2. Players can jump 64 units or less.

3. Stairs steps can rise 16 units max, and run as little as 4 units, but it is hard to stand on a 4 unit step. Players will fall going down a steep stairway if they move too fast. Minimum for not falling is 12 unit for the top of the steps.

4. Sixteen units is a foot (grid size 1), but when you start mapping by feet, you quickly see that things look too small. However, new mappers offten make there brushes too large at first. Place an info_player_start near by to check the height of objects.

About this jumping... you can jump higher when not pressing the forward key ( Example: You can jump up the ledge from the grass/tree area on the allied spawn side on the bridge only if you DONT move forward )... is this 64 units or higher?
My guess is that this is a "running jump" as Surgeon describes. Running is unimportant, not pressing forward is.

AND there are some places you cant jump to with the main weapon up ( like the church roof on the hunt ), but only empty handed or with the pistol... what height is that?
