Scout modification 1.0 released

Post by Bjarne BZR »

The multiplayer scout modification is released in version 1.0.
Its a server side mod that can be used in any MP map with a script ( that includes the stock maps ).

Basically it gives the players the ability to scout the enemy soldies by locating them with the binoculars and "taging" them. Like in these before/after pictures:

Good luck to that poor Axis soldier doing anything sneaky for the next 10 seconds  .

Read about it and check the pictures and download it here.
A simple install insruction is included in the download.

We have a public server running only "Vemork approach" all the time:
ToTAL[#1] ( 213.242.172.14:12203 )

But there must be at least 2 people in the map to test scouting ( you can ony tag enemy soldiers )

That server seems to be always empty :(

Well, its a new server with a new map... And I've found that it is really hard to tear people away from the other servers with only stock maps. People cry for new maps but when it comes to actually using them, thats another thing completely. They whine about getting lost... I mean: did anyone NOT get lost on V2 at first?

:?

True, V2 is a maze, but I still get lost in Vemork Factory

Thank god there's bots to find the docs now. They're better at that than me :)

BTW I think a lot of people don't play custom maps because they don't have the files and don't want to search for them... :?

Bjarne maybe you could make a pk3 with modified scripts for all stock maps to use your scout scripts? People are more likely to try this if they can just download a file instead of having to mess with scripts themselves.

I know the modifications required in the scripts are very trivial, but it may seem like a challenge when you're not familiar with scripting.

Moreover as it is completely server-side you can reach quite an audience with this :)

Once again, the jv makes an intelligent comment... As we are talking about modifying the stock maps on ToTAL[#2] ( hunt, V2, bridge ) anyways... releasing one of those would be practically no problem what so ever... coming up. :D
