E-Boat Map

Post by Voltaire »

Hi ya'll!

I finished my E-Boat map, it will be my first map release! :D I am still working on my Prinz Eugen map, I have finished another map called Bunker Attack, but it still has some bugs to be fixed, also started to work on a town map where the church is the central building, it is un-named at the moment and only in the beginning stages. You can see screen shots of my E Boat map at http://www.redrival.com/voltairemoh/homepage.htm Let me know what you think so far of it. The scripting and pk3 still has to be done on it, I've read the tuts on it and I am still lost in how to do it. So if anybody can give me some help, it would be greatly appreciated. It's all Greek to me

Thank you

It looks to me that you have way to high ambient values, there are no shadows.

Its good that your enthusiastic and want to make many maps.

I would suggest that the Eboat map is not yet finished. As Roger said, theres no shadows, play around with the suncolor settings, ambient light, farplane and so on. If you go to the files page of the .Map site theres a file there called Worldspawn Reference Guide, you can copy the values from stock maps or adjust the numbers to your liking, I am sure with decent lighting the map will look much nicer.

As for construction, I think you need more on the quayside. Cranes, crates, barrels and other usual things you would certainly find there, adding detail to your map will make it look much more professional.

I dont think the deck texture of the boat is right, looks a little odd, I cant point you to a particular wood texture that might work but try highlighting the face and then under file at the top left of radiant theres a white box for inputting text, type WOOD in there, you will get all the textures with wood to browse through, find a better one than you have on there right now.

Keep it up, and dont rush through it, yeah its a pain in the a$$ when your eager to just get on with the next map but beauty is ALL in the details man :)

Ok thanks I'll try out those suggestions, actually there are quite a few crates and barrels on the dock side, just didn't screenies for them all :) I had thought about a crane but didn't want to overcrowd the map. Plus the fact those screenies were pretty much the very first ones made. (Pre Screenies you can call them) On the subject of ambient lighting I thought I read in the tuts somewhere you set the ambient values the same as those of the suncolor values, but I could be mistaken. I have the settings set at 55 55 55. Maybe I should adjust the sun position also. I really do appreciate these suggestions as I am new to mapping, and yes I am very much enthusiastic about making them, he he. It's just so much fun creating a world for MOH players can play in :D

Thank you

Set your ambient value something like 7 7 7, thats still quite bright but should let shadows show.
