Areaportal, without a door?

I know how to use an area portal to optimize brush hiding in a map...
... but can it be used with the same effect when scripting a door ( or in this case: a hatch )? I tried, and it does not work. So is it possible to manually tell an areaportal to deactivate in the same way as a door would do when opening?

Try to add openportal and closeportal. I had some problem with the hatch opening the portal and closing it correctly only the first few times i used the hatch, but that script was f***ed up badly so it will probably work for you.

On the hatch, or on the portal itself?
$my_areaportal openportal
or
$my_scripted_hatch openportal
?

Tested it: worked like a charm! I take a bow...
btw: this is the syntax:

Do you use that once or every time the hatch opens ?

openportal when the hatch opens and closeportal when it closes.
