Grates and Wire Decking !

Now I know all about using no draw on all faces except the face with the grate texture.

My grates are still solid, I cant shoot through them.

I am using the SDK, its a spearhead map, theres two no draw textures, I have tried them both with the same result, solid grates :(

Does anyone have a small piece of deck that they KNOW works in spearhead?

I only need one brush then I can build more of my own from it.

Anyone willing to post a prefab or a map with a bit of decking for me ?

Cheers.

ps. I have tried a couple of prefabs I found and they were not working, think they were made for aa rather than spearhead.

You said for yourself that nodraw didn't help, so I guess that it's a fact of finding the right texture :)

not sure if it will give you the desired effect but try using a patch mesh. you won't have to use the nodraw texture.

I'm using the texture Deckgrate set1, I'm pretty sure thats the correct texture but I might be totally wrong.

A patch mesh wont work for what I want, its just a walkway thing, V2 style.

The deckgrate1 combined with nodraw on ALL other faces should work. I think you are having another unrelated groblem giving this effect... anynother errors in the map?

No other problems anywhere in the map, not even 1 stray brush :)

I am now using deckgrate set1trim, now this is working, I can shoot through it but its not ideal as its kinda red in colour, I can make a new tga if it continues to bug me but I thought deckgrate set1 should work.

Oh well, another day another glitch :)

I'm not sure, but I think the nodraw textures in Mohaa and Spearhead are not the same. Someone had a problem with it before, but that was with using the SH nodraw in mohaa. After the Spearhead mainta folder was disabled and the nodraw texture was replaced, the problem went away.

I worked out what was going wrong :)

Well it was the surface properties of the deck texture. I didnt even think to look before

I checked these flags and it works perfectly..

nomarks
nonsolid
fence
playerclip
monsterclip
detail ( I dont think you need to have this checked but its detail in my map )

Sparks when its shot and bullets go through the holes :)

Damitall!! I had this problem for ages. Someone suggested trying switching on the playerclip property for the decking texture but that was obviously not enough.
The way I sorted it was to make a custom texture using the same .tga file but a custom shader. On reflection all the shader did was set these very same properties you have said.
The fence property will switch on the alpha channel masking (which I has already tried) but obviously it is the NONSOLID when used in conjunction with the PLAYERCLIP that works. DOh!
Thanks m8, finally I can get to sleep at night! :D
