What's the difference? It seems to me that Macs are faster (and prettier :) ), but you can't get all the software you can get for PC's. Is this true?

I don't think a Mac is faster than a pc in general :?. Maybe easier to get started with.

Oh no! :?
I have had this discussion now for like 10 years, and in the end someone will always say: Linux beats them both! haha...
Im crossplatform and have been working with them both since '92... Mac was better in teh early days, but Windows has caught up and its even better then Mac today... but then again, it all a matter of taste really...
I like them both, have them both... but im afraid of the new G5 adn teh new Mac OS coming out :S
(ps, im not a linux guy, havent even seen it)

Random! They used to, now Windows does the same or even better...
For Development of Graphics, design, animation, video etc... PC has teh same power! Mac's have had like Dualprocessors for a long time, but still there's not any software that really supports it, more like complicating it instead. When I worked for Macromedia we'd ask what computer the customer had, and when they mentioned the Dual ones, we had to let them go, sorry no support, the applications are not written for that kind of computer, yet! Imagine their faces on the other side of the phoneline :S lol
Dual ones was way ahead of time back then... look now; G5 dualproc. 64bit... mjaaaaaaauuuu nicey... well get there soon, and thats the same for the windows market.

If you were a programmer then you would support linux i believe because it is all open source which means they are like the communist hippies which share everything. Personally i like communist hippies but as was already stated it all comes down to what is your lever of expertise and what are your preferences.

PS when i say things like i believe it is more or less a uneducated guess.

Hmm, just watched a video about G5 on the mac website. They say it's the fast desktop in the world! (well, they probably have to say something like that). They also say the graphics are amazing too. They also have high hopes for their new OS X.

Interesting... :)

Mac video: http://www.apple.com/powermac/video/ (Click on one of the screen sizes  )

On a plus side, the G5 could also be used to grate cheese! (you'll see what i mean when you see it)

My good friend and former HTML teacher told me that Macs are one of the better ones for image and multimedia.. or was it just images? It was because Macs are much more stable and their pixels are rounded.

Besides.. I miss booting up and wathcing those puzzle icons at the bottm on the screen

A friend of mine has linux and mac. the GUI of mac is the most beautifull, then windows, then linux. His mac (laptop) is pretty slow (G4) with mohaa but other macs are pretty fast I guess. He has problems playing mohaa with linux too, so I think windows is better but I haven't really worked with linux and mac.

if u compared not just the performance but also the price, you'd see the truth. and those times when macs were less likely to crash are over and it gets worse with every OS they release :))

that macs are better for graphics, desktop publishing and stuff is true as far as every printing house where u would bring your work, is working on macs. therefore problems with files, fonts and stuff are less.

Hmmm what a debate :)

I learned the basics on a PC, I thought I was good :)

I landed a job at a huge advertising agency as a web designer using macs, I had never touched one but felt confident that it couldnt be too hard. I went to my brothers work for a few nights to work out my way around the desktop on his imac. It took a couple weeks to really get my stuff together. When I started my job I nearly threw up the first morning ( I was working in Canary Wharf) they gave me a lovely G4 with a 21' monitor, all the account managers thought I was a magician as I dragged a bunch of jpg's and dropped them onto my pshop icon :) Account managers can hardly open email yet try to have input on my work :)

Recently I have been freelancing and they invariably give me a beat up G4 that couldnt even hope to keep pace with my Athlon PC, so I bring almost all of my work home.

I love the interface on a mac, just dragging stuff all over the place is beautiful, also I read above that the close window button is on the wrong side, well thats not a problem cos after 6 months on a mac you hardly touch your mouse, its all keyboard shortcuts that make you look really cool, its apple w to close a window :)

Well the debate will continue, I have no preference, I love my PC cos its simple to grab progs I want and its speedy. Macs with a ton of RAM are a delight to use. Rounded pixels on a mac ? I never heard of that, seems macs hate flash though, it runs like a really small mammal with broken legs on a mac.

Well the truth is out there, maybe its they are both cool :)

edit: One thing that really annoys me, you burn a disc at home on your pc and the macs in the office cant handle the file names and change them to unrecognisable rubbish:( thats a big bitch of mine

edit 2: people browsing the web on a mac get really messed up web pages :) all the design houses that insist you design with a mac cant even view their own sites accuarately on their macs hahahaha :)

The MAC <--> PC discussion is so old, so useless, and so boring.
Some like MAC, some like PC.
Some like Volvo, some like Saab.
Some like X, some like Y.
(And so on)

They are DIFFERENT. Get over it.
