Compiling techniques???

My map has now got to the stage where if i want to do a full level compile of it its impossible as it now takes in excess of a week

to compile the VIS stage.
For this reason i have searched someone else out to do the compile for me on a spare system, only what i would like to do is compile the map in 3 seperate entities to split the compile time, ie i compile the .BSP he compiles the VIS and then i can compile the LIGHT. Is it possible to do this, i have looked at the tutorial for advanced compiling and failed to get it to work in any shape or form

and so was wondering if someone either has any other ideas as to how i can compile the map or an idiots guide to to the advanced compiling tutorial
Thx
btw The advanced compiling i got stock on the
Compiling from the command line
where is the command line?? If its the thing at the bottom of the map where it tells you the undo number, that its saved etc etc then ive tried this to no joy.
Please help as my map is now finished and just needs a good compile on it before i can release the final version of it.

Hey Daniel. Its not the same map I helped you with a few months ago, is it?
To my knowledge, you cant "split ut the map" to compile it in its parts, as you talk of.
The fact that a compile takes close to a week indicates that you have a lot of complex brushwork that is structural when it should be detail... read up on VIS compiling, detailing brushes and maby some manual VIS.
Oh, and the command line is the "black box" you get by going to Start->Programs->Accessories->Command prompt on most windows systems. ( Also known as DOS on prevoious Windows versions ).
Or you can access it By selecting Start->Run... and writing
cmd in the box and pressing Enter ( Or the OK button ).
Hope it helps

i never saw a map with a compile time of over a week... are u sure the map file is made the way it should and, if yes, do u think it will be playable?! Or is it ur pc

?
the command line is the DOS prompt. As mbuilder writes a batch file (builder.bat in the map folder) of the commands it'll execute, u can either do the same, split its batch file in several batch files or just type the lines like in the builder.bat at the DOS prompt.
And: If your planning to do this job sharing to save time, it will fail because the compile stages will have to be done one after the other, so u'll have to wait for the results of the other one and can't start LIGHT before VIS is done...
P.S. I have no spare pc, sorry

Nope, its a different map than the 1 you helped me with
As for reducing the compile time ive done on the manual VIS'ing that I can see, ive detailed everything i can think of that i can that isnt required to be structual for area portals, and i do have 990 entities in it and 94 lights (slightly less than my previous map attampt with nealt 500 lights).
Ive tried the command compile in the command promt box too, but all I get is
q3map is not recognised as a valid internal or external command, operable program or batch file
The map is playable as test versions are currently on the clan servers, and now that it has been fully tested and any bugs been dealth with its time to give it a proper compile and release a final version, so yes, im sure its playable.
As for the sompile in parts what i actually meant was that i would compile the BSP which i send to my mate, he then compiles the VIS and sends the .bsp and any other files back to me where i carry out the final LIGHT compile. I didnt actually mean split the map itself up, if it was possible and i tried it id never get it back together again :

Forgot to mention, it was adding the manual VIS's that caused this massive increase in compile time, it was a reasonable 24 hoours apx prior to teh VIS brushes being added.
And you may look at the .map file if you want too.

as Bjarne says a black box opens with the command prompt which looks something like c:\>_ (the _ is the cursor). For the execution of e.g. q3map.exe from there, you'll have to enter the commands with the full path:
F:\spiele\MTools\Q3map.exe -blocksize 0 -gamedir F:\spiele\Mohaa F:\spiele\MTools\maps\b_viet.map
above is what it'd look like on my system.
then, it ought to work...
and i'd like to see the .map. Could u give me URL or send it /email?

OK, sorry to bring this up again but i still cant get it to work.
This is the command line i use when i try to do the compile, can someone please look at it and tell me what im doing wrong here.
C:\Program Files\MOHAATools\q3map -gamedir "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\MOHAA" "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\MOHAA\main\maps\mymap.map"
Although it dosnt look like it above, it is all 1 line I type in. I still get a
..... is not a recognised ......
and the directories are correct as i pasted them into notepad as part of teh command line and then just copied from there.
This is really starting to irritate me now.
Thx in advance for your help

I assume that u found the command line (i.e. the DOS prompt).
Then, the only difference so far (what is not recognized by what??) are the quotes that u use.
try to find the builder.bat in the map folder and take a look what it does!?
there ought to be one from your last use of mbuilder.
