A special door

Post by Seth »

I have made a func_rotating door and then made a hole in it to fit a func_window.
The windows and the door has been targetnamed and in the script I wrote:

$window bind $door
$broken bind $door

With this setup you get a fine looking door with a nice little window whitch tag along nicely with eachother when you open it.
The problem starts when you break that particular $window and its younger brother $broken appears within the frame.
$broken is an obstinate little window and refuse to follow his older brother?s fine example. No, his choice is to sulk in midair!
Why is this, and is there any solution to the problem?

I know there are hundreds of posts about doors, even similar questions like mine, but I haven?t found a definite solution to this yet.

Thanks everyone for your questions and answers that has helped me so far, this is a great forum. Hope my storylike question wasn?t too annoying.

actually quite amusing.

i don't see why it wouldn't work as long as all of the spelling is correct and matches within the script and radiant....

other than that i am not sure.

sorry  :?:

I didn?t have to wait long for the first answer. That?s great. thanks

Hmm..
I have also tried to leave Mr $window out of this story, where I only used the script_object $broken. This makes $broken happier and swings open with the door. So my guess is, as long as the $broken part of the func_window is hidden (where does the little bastard hide?) the script won?t be able to bind it to the door.

Hidden things don't move, so binding the broken window to the door will do no good. Your best bet would be to make the broken window by hand and make it part of the func_rotating door. Then fill in the missing parts with the func_window brushes. Use nodraw on the edges where the func_window brushes meet the broken window brushes.

Updated door2 tutorial map

Post by tltrude »

I have updated my Door2 tutorial map and the front door now has a func_window in it.

I also put an on/off trigger on the TV (with sound) and a remote controlled door in back of the grarage (keypad).
