Alpha channels in images/textures are very irritating to me. Everyone always say they're so easy, but then no one offers any help on how to do it, or provide a real tutorial -- the closest I've found is a tutorial on how to edit a sniper scope, and it doesn't deal with modifying the alpha channels.

So, I have a tiny little image, and it has a black spot, and I want it to be transparent there. That's all I want. >.<

Anyone up for it?

If you use Photoshop 6.0 do the following:

1. Open Photoshop.
2. Open the image.
3. Create an alpha channel.
a. Find the floating window "Channels"
b. Click the little new page icon at the bottom of that window, or select new channel from the attached menu.
c. You will now have a Alpha 1 channel and what appears to be a black image.
4. Paint the areas you want to be visible with 100% white colour and the areas that you want to be transparent with 100% black in this channel.
5. Save as a TGA file, and make sure you select 32 bit depth when that question comes.

If you don't know how to user Photoshop to paint, I guess you will have to learn that first. But that is another thing entirely.
